We have recently begun work on the Grosse Ile North Channel Front Range Light. Built in 1906, the Grosse Ile North Channel Front Range Light is the island’s only remaining lighthouse. One of many range lights that once served commerce traffic along the Detroit River and its channels, the light is today owned by Grosse Ile Township. Smay Trombley Architecture is currently working with the township and the Grosse Ile Historical Society to undertake an exterior rehabilitation of the lighthouse, including window repairs, lantern glass replacement, upper deck repairs and repainting.
The project is yet another great preservation effort of our maritime heritage made possible through the Michigan Lighthouse Assistance Program administered through the State Historic Preservation Office. We are also currently working with the Charlevoix Historical Society and Mihm Enterprises, Inc. on the Phase 1 Rehabilitation of the Charlevoix South Pier Lighthouse. Michelle Trombley, AIA is proud to have been involved in preservation efforts at eight Great Lakes lighthouses. |
